Art of Making Furniture, The

John Makepeace

Unusual and excellent book with examples and plans for pieces you can make that were designed by craftsmen, James Krenov, Richard La Trobe Bateman, Fred Baier, Norman Beverton, Ashley Cartwright, Wendell Castle, John Hardy, Sam Maloof, Richard Raffan, Howard Raybould and Bob Stocksdale. Many of these designs withstand the test of time with their simplicity of line and accomplished use of wood. Under the direction of John Makepeace, internationally famous designer, 11 of the worlds top craftsmen have been commissioned to provide plans for 30 unusual pieces of furniture for the home and garden. Aside from the wonderful designs there are 2 additional in-depth sections for the woodworker: Section 1 is a thorough discussion and explanation of the properties of wood, including how to buy hardwoods and softwoods and timber preparation prior to making your own furniture. Section 3 is a thorough explanation of hand and power tools, how they work, and how to make the most of them.

Dust jacket has small chips and tears, but is protected by mylar jacket protector. Book very good with a little soiling to flyleaf and heavy scuffing to front cover bottom corner. Overall very good condition.
