Lots of great photos (by Julius Shulman), diagrams, and text. It is a complete step-by-step guide to building or buying a home: financing, choosing a site, architect and contractors, interior design (room by room), heating, plumbing, insulating, lighting, color and more. While some of the advice is outdated, it is a fabulous and complete look at the California modern design sensibility with many hard-to-find examples. Written for the layman by W. A. Kirkpatrick, former professor of architecture at the University of Southern California and principal of Kirkpatrick and Gallion. Examples include: A.
