golden rule bazaar encyclopaedia of cookery and reliable recipes
Cookbook printed expressly for the patrons of the Golden Rule Bazaar, San Francisco, California and Portland Oregon. A monumentally scarce cookbook in unexpectedly good condition. Opened circa 1897 in San Francisco, the Golden Rule Bazaar was one of the first stores of it's kind and thrived with the rush to hydraulic and quartz mining. It merged with the Emporium in 1897. Along with recipes like Salted Beef (keeps for years), Pigeons in Jelly, Charlotte Russe, Spiced Plums and Pickled Walnuts, there are chapters with recipes for cosmetics, medicines, wines and perfumes. Approximately 400 pages. A few black and white charts and illustrations of meat cuts. Dark green cover.
| Pages very brittle and browning with age. Title lettering faded and very difficult to read. First 3 pages want to come loose, but are still intact. Binding tight. A few food stains. | | pub date: | 1892 | | publisher: | Merchants Specialty Company | | format: | Hardcover |
